1990 Lesebre Cruise Control
Hi again, time for a new problem for the experts on the forum!! Thanks everyone for helping on my prior "blemishes"!! I have a 1990 Lesebre with about 122,000 miles on it.
For about two to three years I have been having cruise control problems. When I set the cruise the light on the dash comes on and stays on. It will hold its speed anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Then it will VERY gradually slow down, almost so gradually that I barely notice I am slowing down sometimes. It seems to also "kick out" more when going up hills and when cruising at higher speeds. When I notice it slowing down, I will push back down on the gas pedal until I am up to my original speed and it will hold again for several more minutes until going out again!! My lady lives 3 hours away so cruise control would definetely be a plus in my case. I have checked the vacuum hoses but they seem to be ok. Again the cruise light stays on all the time. I don't know what the deal with GM cruise controls are but we have had a 86 cutlass, 81 station wagon, 91 lesebre, 90 lesebre all with bad cruises over the years!! Tried to do a search but nothing seemed to exactly match my problem. Any input would be much appreciated!!! |

Re: 1990 Lesebre Cruise Control
You and I seem to have the exact same problem. With my car the length of time that the cruise stays on is dependant on the outside ambient temperature. In the winter the cruise will work indefinitely. As the outside temperature increases the cruise stays on for shorter and shorter periods. In the spring and summer the cruise will stay on for fifteen minutes or less. I am sure that the issue revolves around under hood temperatures and the internals of the cruise control solenoids. I am tempted to just buy a new cruise solenoid, I just don't want to waste money if that is not the cure. Let me know if you come up with anything.
Cheers! Mike |

Re: 1990 Lesebre Cruise Control
I took apart an actuator, and inside is a rubber bladder that inflates and deflates to pull on the throttle cable. I would guess the bladder has a slow leak, or the valves controlling it are leaking.
