Emissions legal engine swaps?

I may be buying an 89 CRX Si, but want to put a different motor in because the 110 hp motor just isn't enough to make power with. I was going to get a B16 from HMO, but I live in Texas so I can't pass emissions with it....so basically my question is, where can I get a high hp (b16 or gs-r) motor to swap into the CRX?

Search function isn't working on this computer for some reason right now...

Re: Emissions legal engine swaps?

As long as you get it all wired correctly and have your 4 wire o2 sensor and keep the comp from thryowing codes and use a good cat converter, then yu shouldn't have proplem passing emisions unless texas has a law that has something to do with newer motors being in older cars then i think you'll be ok.

Re: Emissions legal engine swaps?

I don't see how this will make an engine with absolutely no emissions controls pass the test...

im pretty sure the B16 would pass your emissions. I mean, it burns gas just like your current motor does. Emissions are usually failed because of things like your o2 sensor, cat, evap, etc.

Re: Emissions legal engine swaps?

swapping new tecnologie for old technologie is what is illegal, ie if you have an 89 civic you would be able to put a 90 moter in it for sure but not neccisarily an 88 moter because technologie might be older, hope that makes sence
