Shifting Problems

i have a 95 SC2, 5 speed. About a month back i was going fast on the freeway and somehow a gear busted a whole in the transmission. i brought it to a mechanic that put a used trans in it that was bad and wouldnt go in to gear easly, he replaced that one with another one it was doing the same thing so he put new cables in it, then it got better, but still wasnt good, he put another trans in and it still was hard to get into gear. I also had a clutch slave cylinder put in it, that didnt change anything. If i double clutch it is fine. What is my problem?
-Thanks

Re: Shifting Problems

if its fine when you double clutch, that is commonly a sign of bad sycnros.

did you replace just the slave cylinder or all the hydrualics? if there was air in the slave cylinder, it may cause shifting problems. and the slave cylinder is very hard to bleed, thats why its better to replace everything(normally bleed and sealed at the factory)

also, how old is the clutch?

the hole i assume came from a busted diff pin, did you inspect the engine compartment? its just as easy for that pin to fly up then it is down.

I had only a slave cylinder put in, the mechanic said it was hard to bleed, but he put it in and it was fine, it didnt grind when going into gear or roll when in gear, and it didnt slip. I had the clutch replaced about 10,000 miles ago, it was just the clutch, none of the hydrolics.

Re: Shifting Problems

i say if is one or maybe two gears, its the syncros. if its all gears, then i would think its the hydraulics, as both the cables and clutch have recently been replace and the hydraulic should have been done with the clutch anyway.

Re: Shifting Problems

I have kind of the same problem. When i shift my car into 2nd and 3rd it grinds a little bit. Double clutching helps. I have talked to a few people and they said that its my syncros. So i am pretty positive. Anyone know how much syncros run and have instructions on replacing them?
thanks, mike
