ATF fluids
People on the Honda Board are telling me i've got to use Honda ATF in my 93 Honda Civic 164K.
I have the generic (coastal) ATF. It says it is okay for Honda. Could I do any permanent damage using this in a honda trans? Or do they just tell you to use honda ATF so you go to the dealer and over pay for ATF. |

Re: ATF fluids
There are several different ATF formulations, but they are all basically hydraulic fluid.
I would check with some other sources, but ATF is pretty commonly used in manual trannys, especially in aging trannys that need a little extra help. It is debatable if they allow more wear to internal parts, but I'm not a manual tranny expert. I just know that ATF sure did solve a couple synchro problems in my BMW/Getrag five-speed, but it did make it a little noisier.

Re: ATF fluids
drained and filled. took it on a 2 mile test drive and the car did not explode! much easier than changing the ATF in my 97 malibu. I hate pans.
