speedometer problem

ok guys heres whats wrong, i got the supra about a month ago and im working my way around to each problem, now when i got it the speedometer was not working and i assumed it was the cable, i bought a new one, brand new not from a junk yard, and put it in and still no go on the speedometer, im not to familiar with this part of the car so any help is muchly appreciated, how can i fix the speedomoter?

ok so i see no one has looked at this but im gonna post some progress. i went down to the speedometer gear and it sounds like the gears are slipping in there and i can feel it click when i spin the driveshaft, so it looks like its internal, has anyone had this problem before? can i get a new gear for it? any help please!

ok guys thanks for the help but i got it, after much wasted energy and a new spedometer cable i found out the driven speedometer gear was broken, the gear on the back of it was plastic, which is somewhat good because if it were to seise then its better to have that stripped than part of the tranny, well anywho the gear looks fine on first glance but a closer look and a feel test there are three low spots, so i gotta find it, any suggestions on where to get it? hopefully not the dealership... might have to go to a junk yard...anything that fits in your pocket it free right...oh wells hope someone can get some use of this other than me, if you do the thing is not threaded so just pull it out, found that our the hard way.

i just went down to my local salvage yard and found a supra or celica with the same tranny and pulled out the gear from that car and now it works but it still bounces i think i need to replace the dash to.
