92 3.0 Caravan Stalling Issue
Hi all
Well I’m new to the group and was reading through some of the many posts and I see there is a lot of experience here so I feel this is the place to pose my questions. First off I have a 92 (5/92) Caravan with the 3.0L MPI, AC, PS, PB, Cruise. Effectively your basic minivan. This is my wife’s van and she drives it daily and she puts quite a few miles on it. This is the problem I’m having. When the vehicle is warm and when she comes to a stop sign/light… as soon as she takes her foot off the gas it dies. Now she can immediately restart it as a general rule although sometimes she (or I) has to start it several times but usually once started and she steps on the gas again all is good and it drives fine. This is what I have done so far. I have replaced the O2 sensor, the TPS, the MAF/MAP (the one on the other end of the intake) I can see or hear no vac leaks and I went as far a purchasing a pretty decent diagnostic tool (EZ Scan 3000) and it tells me there are no trouble codes and all the other points look within range. Now the only thing I have not changed is the EGR, BUT at the risk of sounding really stupid I cannot find one!!! I have been using a Haynes manual to try to sort this out but they cover so many different models, it’s just not too detailed on these types of problems. The one thing I thought was strange is that looking at the book about the throttle body there should 2 vacuum points, 1 for some vacuum lime that goes into the harness and 1 SHOULD go to the EGR, however there is a blank hole (non functional) where the EGR vac point should be. ANYWAY… has anyone seen this stalling problem before and/or can anyone tell me if I’m barking up the wrong tree? And does this year/month caravan even have an EGR? If need be I can take photos and send them. Thanks in advance and if anyone wishes to e mail me please us [email protected] Thanks John |

Re: 92 3.0 Caravan Stalling Issue
Replace the gasoline filter. I have this happened to me twice on my 93 3.0 Caravan. Get the filter from DODGE not from after market shop. THey cost the same.

Re: Re: 92 3.0 Caravan Stalling Issue
Yes, these vans do have EGR system. EGR valve is mounted on the Air plennumm next to the throttle body. To suspect EGR for stalling is going too far.
I would sart with gas filter as I said in the last post. -Paul |

Re: 92 3.0 Caravan Stalling Issue
May be the Idle Air Speed motor which keeps the idle above the stalling point. Had the same thing on my 94 3.0. Stalled at the stop signs, but restarted right away. I believe the IAS motor is on the throttle body.
