gsr auto tranny

ok i have now had 3 friends and i read a thread today that said gs-r auto tranny. and they all said japan only. i also heard from one of my friends that usually people take them out and replace them with 5 speeds in japan. how hard would it be to find this auto tranny? i like my auto tranny as it is now its stays beside most integras in the area and walks them on interstate. but this gsr auto tranny caught my eye and wanted to know if anyone else knew anything bout them. and another question kind of in the same realm torque convertors aka shift kits anyone know a manufacturer for them or if they even exist for our cars? thanks in advance

Re: gsr auto tranny

The GSR auto tranny would not walk a manual on the interstate. The advantage I see in having manual is a closer gear ratio, and a extra gear in comparison to the auto. Unless the auto is a 5 speed, which I don't know, it should definatly fall behind on the highway at those speeds. Since there are less gears, each seperate gear has to be lengthened to make up for the extra one the manual has. Also there is the fact that the auto probably lacks a torque converter. Most automatics eat up more power from the crank to the wheels than a manual would. Something about a less efficient pathway. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but this is what I believe about the transmissions. Someone let me know if I'm wrong.... constructively please.
