Problem with starting

I searched and found similiar problems but no real answer. I have a problem with my 94 4cyl not starting. It only happens after i've driven the car for less than a half hour, stop the car for a few minutes, and then try to start it again. Whenever i turn the key normaly i hear a light motor noise ending with click, like the fuel pump sending fuel up into the rails, but when it wont't start i don't hear the noise. Is this noise the fuel pump? if so whats causing the sound not to happen. Every time it turns over and then dies suddenly, I have to wait a few minutes and sometimes do it multiple times and then it will start. whats the prob?

Re: Problem with starting

Could be the main relay but it could also be in the spark circuit, i.e. coil/ igniter. The fact you don't hear the fuel pump could the first clue.. The main relay problem could be bad solder connections and would be the cheapest place to start. You can fix that yourself by resoldering all the connections on the printed circuit board. If that doesn;t fix the problem, go to coil/igniter in the distributor. You can do a igniter/ECU check, by disconnecting the coil and putting a light across the leads and turning the engine over. If it blinks, it is the coil. Keep us advised on how you fix this.
