Re: my first street bike.
Explain what you mean by "pressure on the bars"... Obviously, in turns, you need to press down on the side that you want to turn toward, but I am pretty sure that isn't what you mean. See if you can describe this pressure so we can help you better!

Below 20 mph, the motorcycle rides like a bike, turn the bars to the right, it will go right, turn the bars to left, it will turn left. However above 20 mph, you lean the bike, that means putting pressure on the bars. Another words, if you press right, go right, press left, go left. Now if you try to ride it like a bicycle, so lets say you grab the right bar and push it while pulling the left bar to make the bike turn left, it will actually lean to the right, and vice versa for the left. What it translates to is again pushing pressure on the bars, this is called counter-steering, opposite of regular steering that you use while riding below 20 mph. You can lean the bike the same way on a curve, but using body weight and holding the bars lightly and pressing on it gently.
So what I'm guessing is above 20 mph, you're trying to turn the bike like regular steering to make it go right. But you're probably using the left bar to "push" to instead of "pressing" on the right bar to turn right, so what happens is you're actually pressing on the left, and the bike turns left. However, if I presumed wrong, and you're pressing on the right bar to go right, and left bar to go left, then you're using countersteering, and it is NORMAL, that's the way to steer bikes. May I recommend taking MSF, it will clear a lot of newbie confusion.
