Insurance on a TB....

I started a thread a couple of weeks ago about getting a TB and that. So i have been checking out insurance to find out how much it will go up. I have Progressive Ins. and have full coverage ($100/300) with $500 deductables. What coverage do you have on your vehicles? But here is the breakdown of premiums.:

2000 Grand Prix GT &
1999 Montana EXT ...... $540/ 6mos........Currently have

2005 TB LS/LT 2x4.......$78 increase per 6mos
2004 TB LS/LT 2x4.......$83 increase "
2002 TB LS 2x4............$81 increase "
2005 TB LS/LT 4x4.......$78 increase "
2005 TB ext LS 2x4......$72 increase "
2005 Envoy 2x4...........$72 increase "
2005 Envoy XL 2x4.......$64 Increase "
2005 Envoy XL 4x4.......$64 increase "

Kinda screwed up that it costs more to insure a year or 2 older TB than a brand new one. And then a 2x4 costs the same as a 4x4 then a EXT version costs less than a regular size TB.

Insurance premiums are based on a lot of factors, one of which is actuarial experience. It doesn't surprise me that a 4x4 doesn't cost the insurance company more in claims than a 2x4 -- for the vast majority of 4x4 drivers, there is no difference in their driving, compared to a 2x4 owner's (that is, most 4x4 owners never/rarely go off-road or drive extensively in snow).

It makes sense that the EXT version is going to be purchased by someone who needs to haul around a lot of kids, making it more of a "soccer mom" type of vehicle, and statistically, soccer moms probably have lower accident rates than guys hauling stuff home from the Home Depot.

You've got me on the new model being cheaper to insure than an older one, though. That's weird.

Of course, it is a leap of faith that any given company's relative insurance premiums are based on statistics, or logic for that matter. They may be more influenced by competitors' rates for the same model, regulatory issues, and the like.

Unfortunately, I cannot find my exact coverage through State Farm, but I have something like 300K/& something else that is a high dollar amount.
I have a $500 deductable. Perfect record...believe it or not ...well, that they have caught me on

My 6 month insurance rate is something like $369 every!

Not too shabby huh?

Re: Insurance on a TB....

Progressive...Orlando, FL (pretty high insurance rates due to all the tourists) 100/300...$500 deductible. Only vehicle I have with them. Garaged. Over 30yo. 15k annually. 20miles one-way commute. $421 every six months. 4x2 '03 LTZ

Even that d@mn Gecko is more than that.

doing some more research with insurance. Using the same year, same drivetrain, etc and comparing a Trailblazer vs. Envoy. The envoy is cheaper. Wonder why? basically the exact same thing except some facial differences.

2002 TB 4x4 EXT.........$89 increase per 6 mos.
2002 Envoy XL 4x4......$52 increase "

2003 TB 4x4 EXT.........$85 increase
2003 Envoy XL 4x4......$78 increase

Doesnt make sense and pee's me off that it costs more to insure a 02 TB than an 05 TB
