A604 Tranny "limp mode" problems?

I've got a '94 Plymouth Voyager with the 3.3 liter and four-speed, A-604 transaxle. In July of '05 it went into limp mode for the first time while pausing at a stop sign in the middle of a 9,000+ road trip. I had had the van for about a year already and hadn't had any major problems with it. Had been feeling pretty confident and unconcerned about rumors of problematic transmissions and then...Wasn't getting any codes and was told by almost every mechanic I talked to that I would probably need to have it rebuilt. Didn't have the money and don't gengerally trust professional mechanics so found this forum and thought it would be a godsend since I'm not really comfortable around transmissions. Tried a couple of the "easy" fixes and had no luck. Then it quit acting up and I forgot about for the last several moths.

About two weeks ago it went into limp mode again and has stayed there for the duration. Finally got fed up with it today and tore into the wiring harness from the TCM. If you've been searching this post at all for Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth tranny problems then you've probably seen the one entitled something like "Tranny problems? Chrysler Secret..." which details a certain tip about a questionable wiring splice in the loom. A red wire connecting the TCM (also called the EATX), the solenoid and a certain connector leading from the TCM. Found the splice but of course everything looked fine.

Figured that since I was already into it though I'd go ahead and visually inspect the other wires - and what do you know? I found a wire that was worn through the insulation and a couple of the strands composing the multistrand. There was a small loom protected by a plastic sleeve inside the main harness leading from the TCM/EATX(of which this wire was part). The plastic sleeve had been rubbing against the wire in the main loom (presumably for the last 12 years) and had finally compromised the wire enough that it no longer delivered what it was supposed to. Clipped it, spliced it, took it for a test run and it works like a charm now! I definitely lucked out...More skilled to have found it by working off of a (non-Chilton - they suck) wiring diagram but hey, I'll take what I can get (especially since I don't have a good diagram)! The wire was black with an orange stripe. Don't know what it goes to but if anyone out there has a decent diagram and feels like looking it up, I'd sure love to know.

Hope this might shed some light or lead some of you in the right direction.
