92 GMC Yukon - heater problems

I have experienced the following problems with the heating system for my GMC Yukon (which may or may not be related):

First Problem

In order to get hot air, the truck needs to be moving continously. When I slow down or stop the air starts to get lukewarm then cold. As soon as I start moving, it begins to heat up. From time to time I will hear fluid pouring into the heater core as I am driving. The current heater core is only five years old.

Second Problem

The vent door for my defroster has become inoperable in the closed position. So no air comes out of the upper dash board vent.

Third Problem

From time to time the blower motor for the heater will stop working without warning and then restart sometime later (usually after I restart the engine).

Any advise on this issue will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
first problem may be not enough antifreeze or air stuck in the heater core.
Hearing water gurgle is a hint of air being where water should be.
I am not familiar with the 92, but it may be the heater control module, if it is electronic.
The blower motor may stop for many reasons, try jiggling the wires when it stops.
Could it just seize up mechanically?

Hi Eggbert,

Thankyou for your response. The antifreeze level is where it is supposed to be. It was one of the first things I checked and also had it checked at the service station as well. The heater control module may be something for me to check. Do you know how I can obtain information on it.

My 01 YXL is quite different.

Your heater core is leaking. But a new one and replace the old one.
