Camshaft

I was going to put an oversize cam on my 97 civic ex but if you put one on your car wont it effect your engine life because if more gas is going in then wont that over work your pistons and what not? Someone told me you could rig an intercooler up but i dont know anything about those i thought they were just for turbos?

Re: Camshaft

intercooler is just for turbos and superchargers. yes it does have an effect on the rings but its not a big effect, and its the price you gotta pay for the hp

Re: Camshaft

Would an intercooler work then or would the oversize cam still cause problems

Re: Camshaft

i dont understand your reasoning. it seems like yoru thinking if you install a intercooler with a cam it youll lose the negative effects the cam has on the motor.

intercooler is only for turbo and supercharger, do you have either? the effects of the cam arent big so dont worry about it, and thats the price you pay for more hp

Re: Camshaft

As everyone else said already, the intercooler is only for a turbo setup. Also, i don't think that the cam is going to do any real damage to your car. BTW what else do you have done to your car that you now need a cam? There are easier modifications you could do. Do you know how to install the cam or are you paying a shop to do it??

Re: Camshaft

what kind of cam are we talking about. If its a stage 1 cam you wont even tell it shorten engine life. Now don't go putting a stage 3 cam in a stock engine . It won't help power and will shorten your car life span. You will also need to reprogram your ecu to get the right amount of fuel with the new cams.

If your friend want you to put an intercooler on your car to help with the cams tell him i have an exhaust bearing he needs lol just playing

Re: Camshaft

I have a header, high flow cat, greddy catback exhaust, injen cold air intake, AEM underdrive pulley kit. I dotn know anything about turbos and intercoolers thats why i asked. So if you put a stage one cam in you dont need to mess with the computer or anything like that? Im not real sure how to change the cam but my dad does but he dosent want me to do it because he says it will shorten my engine life. But it seems to me that old guys dont know much about new cars just old mustangs and what not.
