cracked engine block questions PLZ HELP!!!

i have a 01 celica gt, i cracked the engine block, and i was wondering if i can directly swap the 99 camry engines into my car. they are both the 1zz-fe motors, but the newer celicas have VVT-i on the intake cam. if i put an older 1zzfe into my car will it still work? or do i have to disable the vvti somehow? or would i have to put the older camry ecu into the car? if your could plz help me with this it would be greatly appreciated....

Ouch, how did you manage to crack your block??? No, you can't use the old 1zz's. You need either the 03+ corolla engine, matrix, or 00+ celi gt engine.
