Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
I recently bought a 2002 Monte Carlo LS, it has the Passkey security system in it.
I want to add a new Headunit, Amp, and Subs but I read sometime ago that if I disconnect the battery or the radio that I would need a code to get the car started again. I bought the car use from a Madza Dealership so I don't have any codes or anything. Is this true? I'd rather not find out the hard way. If this is true, how do I obtain the codes, there is a Chevy dealership down from my house, could the find the code? |

Re: Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
If you have the owners manual, it will guide you thru the steps to disarm the system, and rearm it when you are ready. If not, I will read mine tonight (2001 model, but is probably similar) and post again tomorrow. I dont think it affects starting the car, but it will make the radio inoperabe if not disarmed before the battery is disconnected.

Re: Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
Thanks for the reply
The Book that came with my car is a 2003 book. I know how to disarm the alarm(turn it off) throught the radio. Is that what I do to disconnect the battery also? |

Re: Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
I have not actually ever done it (disconnected the battery); I havent had my car long enough to need to yet. But I am pretty sure that is how it works. Maybe someone else could post who knows for sure?

Re: Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
I'm not positive, but I don't think you have to worry about a code unless somebody PUT one in there to begin with.

Re: Battery and Radio Removal with Passlock
If you diasble the security through the stock radio's menu, it will allow you to discconect the battery and have no problems. A chevy dealer can extract the code if you really want to know it, but the wanted to charge me 50 bucks. As long as you turn it off in the deck before unhooking it, you will be fine.
