Arrow F-body = Cop Magnet

Ok... its no secret that when you drive around in an f-body the cops damn near follow you everywhere just so they can pull you over the second you go 1 mile over the speed limit... personally, whenever i drive my P.O.S. truck (cortesey of toyota) i never see a single cop anywhere, but once i get into my bird, it seems like i cant keep cops out of my rear view mirror... but which one is the bigger magnet? firebird? or camaro? what do you think?

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

lol i wouldnt suggest jsut not pulling over.

i dont notice that big of difference, i know more cops take a second look. but thats becasue its a car people tend to drive fast. otherwise what is the point of a fast car? for show? get a v6.

anyways the point is if the cops follow you everwhere, its not the car. some cops are into cars aswell, some not, but it is a car that will attract attention. if the cop keeps following you everywhere, pull into a long tight alley, go to the end and pretend your car stalled and wont start.

But if they always follow you, you must be a shitty driver. end of story.

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

I don't see more cops than usual when I'm in the 'bird', but they tend to focus in on me more, they will follow for a minute but usually don't "tail" me for very long(at least not long enough to worry about). But they never pay attention to me when I drive the Durango.

That old attitude with Cops & Camaro's is dead - at least where I live.

The Cops these days are more concerned with the legions of little punks and their Fast 'n Furious wanna-be image. I've been at a car meet before (not a race) where the Cops were going through every inch of this kids Integra trying to find mods that were not street legal. They come next to me and get me to fire up the motor and all one of them said is how nice my exhaust sounds. Thanks, no questions - not even when the last time I passed emissions was. (they were really sticking it to this kid though)

I don't get pulled over much (if I do its for something I did - never out of the blue), but practically every time the Cop has somehting nice to say about my ride. Its great. So I would have to disagree that my car is a Cop magnet. Its all about making a point to make eye contact with a Cop on the street and sending over a little nod. Guaranteed 9 times out of 10 that nod will come right back to you, then you're clean. Try putting your head down or acting all hard like a little punk looking straight like you don't see the Cop and they'll be on your ass.

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

Good advice, i do the same, if i happen to be driving by a cop i always give them a nod. And usually recive it back. Although, i heard that a few cops think you are just teasing them, and being cocky. but whatever.

Yeah, I'd say it's not the cars, but how they're being driven. I don't get profiled and followed just because I have an SS...

My friend gets tailed in his Mitsubishi Lancer occasionally but I've never had a problem with them following me in the t/a, although friday I'll have the loudmouth and cai put on it so that may change.

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

In my 79 firebird I was tailed every day. It was funny that I got stoped three times in span of half hour in one district. They all asked me where the exaust was, and I just got out of all three by telling them that I just got the car and am just taking it for a spin.
All of the cops looked at me and told me that i just got a nice ride and to take care of the exaust. I was happy, and getting followed by cops is not so much of a chore anymore.
When I got my 89 bird, the cops would follow me all the time. It got annoying, but the way I repelled them was by driving 5under the speed limit. Its funny to see them get really close, but can not do anything. I enjoy it and get few laughs as well. Most of them will 'illegaly' pass me on the sides and very fast at that.
So, if you guys want to stick it back to them cops, just go 5 under the speed limit (totally legal). Also, the stickers "officiall sponsor and supporter of the police department" (something like that) will get you out of a ticket 9out of 10 times.
You can get one after you donate $5 bucks to your local police station.

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

I used to own a mint condition 82' Camaro and Ill tell you i noticed a big difference from when i drove my Beretta or when i drove my Camaro. I got pulled over one time just so a cop could admire my car but I really enjoyed the attention b/c here in Iowa, you dont see many mint condition cars that are 20+ years old

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

way to go, resurecting an ancient thread. for some reason, i dont belive that a cop would pull you over just to look at a regular 82' Camaro.

That's why I stayed away from "Hello Mr. Cop, look at me" Red.

After my red 91 GT and all the BS that went with it from cops even when I wasn't doing anything, it was a pain the butt.

My darkblue trans am seems to be under the radar..so its all good.

Hey guys, I'm new here, but I thought I would add my 2 cents. Just yesterday actually when I was coming home in my '99 Firebird There was a cop going the other way and then he turned around in someone's driveway and followed me back to my house and then kept going. Anyway, it's only a V6, but insurance is a bitch at my age so that's what I got. I've got 250 hp on it with American Thunder exhaust system, K&N FIPK. So I suppose it's more around 240-240. Anyway, that was my first post!

Re: F-body = Cop Magnet

In general, I'm sure that F-bodies are looked at a little closer than other cars, but I have owned my 93 Firebird (Garnet Red) since December 2002 and haven't been pulled over yet. More often, the little Integras and Civics are being harassed, where as the local police seem to leave the domestics alone. BTW, nice Camaro DVS LT-1, Reverse cooling is the only way to go.
