1998 Spyder Tranny

I just got an estimate to get a remanufactured tranny put in my 1998 Eclipse Spyder 2.4 liter non turbo and they quoted me like $3200.00 and thats with a 3yr. 50,000 mile warranty. The guy says that the trannys in the 2.4 liters are mitsubishi trannys and not chrysler so that is why its so expensive and they aren't made anymore. I looked online for trannys and its says they are around $1500.00, but I am not sure if I'm looking at the right trannys. I also dont have the tools or time to do it myself. Anyways, does this sound right? Please help. Thank you all in advance!

Re: 1998 Spyder Tranny

definately not a good estimate. Sounds like you are paying for a new tranny plus work + plus half months rent for technician and they aren't warantying your tranny..

I could see 2300-3000(high end) for the whole job with a remanufactured transmission if you were paying for all of it. But if your under warantee still it should be much cheaper. no they probably don't make the trannys anymore but you can definately get your rebuilt or remaned tranny installed for less then that. Get like 2 other shops to give you an estimate. Then go and call bs on their offer to them. Tell them your covered under warantee and you see no reason it costs that much. Ask them to see what exactly costs so and how much is covered by your warantee.

You're getting fucked over. Go to a local shop and not the stealership. You'll get a much better quote. It'll cost you even less to get a used one.

They are trying to rape you. Do what gthompson said. Any rebuilt or remanufactured tranny SHOULD come with a warranty anyway, but you might catch a break if you get a used one.
