Crankwalk Question

I know all about cw and how it is only on 2nd gens but is this true? I read it in a tuner forum

Quote:
Definitely wait for a GSX, also maybe avoid the '97 model year. It was a bad year for crankwalk. Speaking of that, do not buy it until you have done two things. Had crankshaft end play measured and gotten a service history from a Mitsu dealer for that VIN. It just might tell you she got a new engine and whatever else has been done to the car under warranty.
I didnt know it was more common in 97s which is the year im looking at.

heres the site where the thread was

Re: Crankwalk Question

I thought 95's were the worst and linear to 99 lessening, but I've been hearing recently 97 is the worst. Don't know if anyone's done a year-case study

Really? I've always been told it was backwards - 95 is the "best" year. I have heard that 97 was the worst year, though. I have also heard that starting in 98 they decided to change a few things which have lessened the chance for it. Who knows, there are SO many rumors floating around out there about CW and these cars that its really hard to tell fact from fiction.

Heh, I've seen that one on Autotrader for a long time. I emailed that person and they never emailed me back. They have it listed as a GSX, but it only has the GS wheels, and low spoiler, so I doubt they are telling the truth

Don't say that mine's a 97

No biggie, I am past the "normal mileage" when the dreaded walk occurs.

Then again, my friends 95 GS-T walked at about 110K (right after he installed an ACT 2100

Re: Crankwalk Question

The thrust bearing design went to a 3 piece in mid 97, for the 98 model year. So 95-97 should be the same. Its possible that we're hearing about more 97s now because of the mileage. Most 95s and 6s that were going to walk would have done it well before now. People with 98-99 to get CW, but its quite rare from what I can tell. Even more rare than the 95-97 I should say, because its not all that common. I see many many more cases of Internet Crankwalk than I do real crankwalk.

I got it . You could have cut someone's throat with the bearing that I pulled out of that motor. I'm gonna take some pics of it and put them in my sig
