Is this gonna cause a problem?

Hi,
I have a 96 caprice. About 2 months ago we had the water pump replaced and now we come to find out that the mechanic put in the reg green antifreeze instead of the dexcool....which we had been using. Is this gonna screw our car up. And to top it off my hubby noticed the check engine light on ....so he checks the antifreeze (in the dark i guess) and realizes it is low. He proceeds to top it off with the dexcool and then realized that there was the green antifreeze in there!! So now we have them mixed. arrrg! What should we do? ~jl

Re: Is this gonna cause a problem?

Not worry about it....

The standard green coolant can be used in place of dex-cool. A good flushing is needed when doing the switch. From everything I've read combining the two presents no serious problems either. Especially given the relatively small amount the was probably added. I've actually read of more problems with the dex-cool used in these cars from the factory.

I guess if you're really worried about get it flushed. I'd go back to the standard green stuff and not waste the money on the dex-cool. But that's just me.

I personally have gone from standard green, to dex-cool and back to green in one of my cars with absolutely no adverse effects.
