i say forget the 289, go find a junked 302 fox mustang, take the motor, put a carb intake on it, and throw that in. headers, a nice intake, anice carb, and gasket refreshing will make plenty of power. you can get a mildly built C4 from performance automatic, summit racing sells them, so does 50resto, i'm sure you can make it happen.

I agree with StangNut. You're not worried about matching numbers, go with a 302, and a T5

i'll stick to my guns on the tranny, performance automatic has lots of options for street and strip cars. if you're dead-set on a 289, pull one out of a junked stang, fairlane, etc, that has one, strip it down, and refresh the bottom end. carb, headers, and intake will make it fly.

Re: plz help...cause im a tard!!

There where two different 289's before and after 1965. So make sure you know what year it is or the tranny you buy may not bolt up. Ther had different stroke, bore, and tranny bolt pattern.
Now, as far as finding a new one...you wont. They quit making these things around 1968 I beleave. If you want a new C4 I would suggest a TCI. But no, you will not find a new 289ci ford small block v8.

Re: plz help...cause im a tard!!

Go 302, no problems. That is my suggestion. Not sure why you have to have a 289, can you explain the importance of having a 289, and not a 302?

Re: plz help...cause im a tard!!

Yeah, externally a 289 and a 302 are the same. Only thing is if you ever wanna stroke the 289 the cylinder bores are actually shorter, and the piston can come out of the bore at BDC. I had a friend ruin his 347 kit because he put it in a 289 block.

the reason why i wanted a 289 to make a long story short is so that the #'s match....but the idiot before me took it out and put a 200 straight six instead(ass!) so...i guesse i will go but a 302....if i go buy a 302 can i put a b&m c6 tranny?

Having a 289 in there has nothing to do with numbers matching. If you get the ORIGINAL 289 block that was actually put in your specific car, that would be a numbers matching car. When you stick some random 289 block in there it doesn't mean shit, and frankly nobody at car shows, etc, really cares.

You dont need a C6. If your car was a V8 car, which would have been a 289, it came with a C4 tranny. A C6 will fit in these cars but they are just about too big and bulky. They weigh more, and they rob more power. A C4 is what I would suggest you go with.
