'77 T/A Speedometer doenst work

Well my freind kindly pointed out the other day that my speedometer doest work, I dont know how long it's been out because I drive by feel and a loud as sh!t radar detector. Probably been out for <100 miles (last oil change) Anyone know what and where the problem could be or where the speedometer cable runs in the car? thanks, Gene.

cable probly snaped if not the gear in the trans went, cable goes from the back of the speado thru firewall down thru engine compartment to tranny. good luck kick some ricers ass with it, had 67 400 conv. 365 hp 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds

yep; cable melted/wore away where it passes by the exaust. Thanks for the help
