first ticket :-(

Right so i got my first ticket, hooray. I'm 19, male, was pulled over by an ohio state trooper, i'm white and I drive a 96 ford aspire as far as demographics go

traffic wasn't moving, and i was really close to where i needed to be, so i took a little trip on the berm to get there. then, a state trooper who apparently was behind me whipped out of her lane and followed me there and pulled me over.

i was polite, i said thank you, i had my stuff ready by the time the trooper was at my window.

this is my first violation ever, it's a $110 fine.

Do any of you all think I have a chance in court to get on the probationary-if-you're-good-for-a-year-you-dont-get-your-insurance-screwed plan or something? I'm just afraid that if the judge goes like, you're an idiot, pay the fine, that i'll have to pay another $100 in court fees. Being a starving college student I haven't got that kind of money.

Should I just pay the fine and the insurance and be done with it, or risk going to court?

Re: first ticket :-(

While you have a logical reason, I don't think its a reason that a judge would pardon. If I was in your position, I would go to the judge, but the smart thing to do would be to pay it, and go on.

Re: first ticket :-(

NOOOOO

If you were polite and everything, go and see if they will reduce it. I don't know how OHIO works, but in NY and PA, before you even see the judge, either the cop, or assistant DA will try to cut you a deal with a reduced sentence to keep the court less busy. They drop you down in severity, perhaps you wont even get any points, you pay a smaller fine, and everyone goes home happy. Read through some other threads, as I've written this out a billion times in this forum, but most will tell you the same thing.
If you get a ticket, fight it. End of story. Insurance will screw you for years if you get points as a 19 year-old male.

Re: first ticket :-(

i called my insurance agent earlier, he said they didn't care just so long as i didn't get another ticket for the next two years, since i completed this safe driver thing over the summer. traffic down to the courthouse area during their business hours would be insane anyway. i learned my lesson :P
