1998 3500 Crew: squeaking front suspension...
... is driving me crazy! 7.4 L, 130K miles. She squeaks and groans whenever the springs get loaded: turning away from the curb, speed bumps, etc.
I've sprayed silicon on every rubber thing I could find: A-arm bushings, shock mounts, swaybar hardware, etc. The squeaking might be reduced (but not eliminated) for a day or two, then it comes back. You can hear it a block away. My next attempt will be: remove swaybar and test-drive. If that doesn't work: remove springs and inspect/replace the isolators. After that: take the whole front end apart and replace all the bushings. If you have any info on this problem, PLEASE let me know before I go that far. Thanks! c. |

My shocks are starting to go, and make a squeaking sound when going over speed bumps. How old are your shocks?

Good question. I'll check it out. We bought the truck used, with a lot of miles, and it was in a wreck at some point. New shocks wouldn't hurt regardless. I still think it's more than that though. It is really freakin' loud.
Thanks! c. |
