1978 Delta misfiring and sputtering

I have a 1978 Olds Delta 88 that starts and idles fine. When I go to push the gas pedal, it'll drive, but it'll sputter and hesitate, like it's misfiring. I recently had the plugs replaced and the wires seemed to check out fine. It's a 350 V-8.

Any suggestions on what the problem and/or solution might be would be greatly appreciated.

If this is when its cold it could be that the choke pull off is not working or could be that the hot air oven has rotted away and you not heating the air going to the carb.I would also check the distributor cap for a broken carbon under the coil just for starts.Good Luck

Had a '79 Holiday for the longest time. Suggest drilling out the caps that cover the factory air/fuel ratio screws on the carb. Gives you lots of room to adjust. Also, these things were notorious for that catalytic converter becoming so restrictive the engine won't run. I bought a test pipe, adjusted the air fuel and it ran great. If this works, then you can drop in a new, high flow emissions legal cat. You've found the problem without spending a lot of money if it works.

Hi! Does that car have a vacume advanced distributor? If so,check that the hose connection to it is good.I would ckeck all vacume lines,as that year of car had a mile of vacume hoses!! Bad vacume at the distributor would also cause misfire and sputtering,Because the timing cannot advance,or retard.I miss working on the Good old engins!! Good luck..Diesel 1962
