3.5L DOHC reliable? Want your opinion
I'm looking at a 2000 LS Trooper for $10K with only 58K miles - but I know nothing of the 3.5L DOHC engine.
What are the problems? Do they hold up as well as the 3.2L V6, proper maintenance of course? Give me ANY info please.

Re: 3.5L DOHC reliable? Want your opinion
they are the same as the 3.2L it just has a longer stroke to give it that extra 0.3L.
I think the only thing that pops up with the trooper is excessive oil useage that then spins a rod. Knowing this just make sure you check the frequently, and use sea foam before your oil changes to keep your rings clean. Other then that they have all the same problems as the 3.2. EGR, IMG are the two main ones. If is at 58k that means you have 2k of Factory warranty on it. I would forsure test to see if the IMG is still good. THen do the normal stuff. That is swap out all of the fluids and then enjoy!

Yep, the 3.5L is essentially the same as the 3.2L as Ryan pointed out. You get a ton of truck for the money with a trooper. The only thing I dont like about troopers is the TOD all wheel drive (torque on demand), if so equiped. Only reason I dont care for it is, it's just more things to break as the vehicle ages! Certain body, chassis & drive-train parts on the trooper can be a bit pricey since their are fewer of them on the road than the rodeo, plus the trooper's last year of production was 2002. That is a price advantage! Try to work them closer to $9K
.I'd love to have a late model trooper, minus the TOD. G/luck Joel

Yeah, it has the TOD system, which I know nothing about. Are you saying the parts are $$$ then the Rodeo's parts?
