Well it looks like you have a problem with the value that the PCM is reading from the Fuel temperature sensor.

This could be the cabling to the sensor or the sensor itself. You will need to get some sort of manual to help you test this further. I don't know if a Haynes says much about it but there are books on OBD11 systems that may help. Depending on the cost and effort you may want to simply try a new sensor.

I'm getting the same 0181 code on my 2000 Windstar. Can you give me a somewhat detailed description of where this sensor is located?

As I said in another post, I have a manual for a 95-03 Windstar and it's not mentioned anywhere. Nor at Alldata
I did see a bit of info off google somewhere that said it was attached the fuel rail.
I would start at the injectors and work back to the tank slowly. It has to be on one side or both of the rails or after the regulator.
If you trace back to the tank and don't find it, then I would stop at Ford parts dept. and tell them you would like to order a Fuel Temperature Sensor and see if they have a listing and location for it.

I have been using a c-reader code reader and getting 0181 , I go to auto zone and they use the handheld scan tool and it said 0402 which I have had before.I replaced the egr now I will replace the DPFE and see if this fixes the 0181 code. Murphy is usually right.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to take my more serious error codes first-171/174. I've purchased the 8 isolator bolts, gaskets, etc. and plan on tackling that this weekend. After that, code 181 will be next! I'll keep an eye out for any additional information which might come up with the 181 code.

Re: I'ts me again Margaret: CODE :0181

P0182 = Fuel Temperature sensor A Circuit Low Input.

My '96 Windstar does not seem to have this.....
I do not know about newer model years...
However the code that I listed......will be correct as per OBDII standards.....

I am guessing....as per the FORD layout....with Cylinder #1 at the back of the engine.....that sensor "A" would be on the back fuel rail......it will have wires going to it....the fuel rail is the metal pipe (on my car it is shiney crome) that connects to the top of all the fuel injectors...
Fuel Temperature sensor B would be on the front fuel rail.

My Alldata information lists the application as "NG Crown Victoria"....and I found a picture that shows what looks like a fuel rail assembly for a V8.

I wonder if this could be like Magaret had....where her reader showed the 181 code, but autozone came up with a different code?
If you are in the USA...might be worth having the codes read for you.....just to be sure......to avoid chasing a phantom error.
Or look for a sensor with wires on the front fuel rail.......
