Angry rednecks claim drifting there own!

i recently opened up one of my dads "hot rod" magazines for some bathroom reading matereal and found an article that shocked me. dont quote this (i will get a copie of the article later when i get the magazine) but the jist of what the article said was that the japanese stole the sport of drifting from texans, and that pulling "fishtales" in the "mud" is what rednecks do. of course thats what we all go to drifting events for, you know to see fishtales, they said while all the japanese are dropping the clutch at the apex of the turn "bubba drift" in his el comino is just using that tourqe to power through the turn. what dumb asses, i mean drifting is not a power slide, plus bubba drift uses a automatic transmission with a over powered hunk of shit. now dont get me wrong, bubba drift is somewhat talented, but its easy to say you invented a sport when it becomes big. its not like the japanese came over bombed pearl harbor than stole the "art" of drifting from the red necks. i hate red necks, if they invented it why didnt they all get their trailer homes and line em up into a course hic hic and do some driiiiiiiiftin. the problem with domestic lovers is that they are just a step behind. drifting came from rally racing, and people thought why not try those techniuqes on the street. its not pushing down the gas going 100 than by the end of the turn you are going 20. what do you think.

Re: rednecks claim drifting there own!

Drifting origonated shortly after the advent of what we think of as a "modern automobile" watch some 20's movies about indy, or 40s-50s european racing... drifting as a technique has been around for a LONG TIME, rally drivers have been doing it since the beginning of that aspect of motorsports. However, drifting as a competition is relatively new, and has been seen most notably in japan.

the "art" of drifting is quite involved, and since i'm sure i've made a lengthy post about it some time over the past 4 years, i won't again unless this thread carrys on for a long time.

it's fun to do, it's great to watch, but with modern tire technology... it really is not as useful in racing as it once was (rally exempted)

i think it just happened also, but from wut ac427 was saying, neither the japanese or rednecks invented it, it came from europeans from indy and all that, basically i think whoever started autoracing first, had drifting first, then better tires came out, and people in rally relized it was useful, after that japanese used it on the streets once again, and now its were its at today, and of course it was not just the japanese that started on the streets, it could've been anyone, but the japanese raelly are who got it going into a true sport/art

thats true, good point, that is what i was saying no one invented it, it just kind of happend. but in that article they are talking about the sport of drifting, not the art of it, the competition, rednecks use it for fun in the dirt while they laugh and drink.

yea like inventing fire, its a discovery. wouldnt it be funny if they made a RDDS drifting series. i can see it now, Redneck's Drinking 'N Drifting Series. Hot rod magazine would sponser them, they would call it reall "american" drifting. because every one knows that the americans have to invent every thing (like how they forced einstien to creat the atom bomb, wasnt that a great idea, lets kill millions of innosent people to try and END the war).

You know, I could go on to explain to you about how drifting is a technique that's been used in many "redneck" motorsports for many more years than the Japanese have been involved in motorsport. I could dig up film of sprint car drivers (like myself) who fling themselves into corners sideways three or four wide at 150mph+.

But you know what, It's very obvious that fact, common knowledge, and general reason would have absolutely no worthwhile effect on you. I won't allow this nonsense thread to devolve any further, either. Ergo, this thread is locked as it has no worthwhile value to add to the forum.
