Question which amp to use?

I am looking at two amps: the Boss RIP-896 and the Boss PD-2000. The subs I am hooking it up to will be two Volfenhag ZX4712s. Which amp would work best, also would it be OK to mount the amp vertically? This is my first system so any sugguestions would be helpful.

Re: which amp to use?

Boss is not a good brand, you'll have nothing but problems if you go with them. The same can be said for Volfenhag, but if you already have them then it's a little late for that. How much do you want to spend on an amp for these?

I don't want to spend over 200 on an amp, don't have the subs yet

Re: which amp to use?

well then I guess it depends on how much power you need, $200 is high enough to get something reasonable in most power ranges, unless you're looking for a kW or more. Are you willing to change the sub choice? If so I would recommend it, but again we would need a price range to recommend a good replacement.

I'd look into some Incriminator Audio 187's. www.incriminatoraudio.com

As far as amps, look into Profile, JBL, Lanzar, etc. peace

Re: which amp to use?

those are not powerful enough, and also too expensive, if you find a sub with 1000 w/peak under $70 let me know. the volfenhags are the best i see so far

Look at the Extreme line. They'll be right where you want to be money wise. They are a little better than what you are looking at. More importantly, they'll do what they say they will do!

Go with 2 Extreme 12" subs and the 1500x
mono block sub amp.

If you put 1000w to those subs you'll dig those subs their own grave.

I forgot to list that you have to CALL for direct pricing! It's MUCH cheaper than listed MSRP and it'll fit in your budget. Also, the 187's will MURDER anything listed in this thread PERIOD.

They all suck, but THE LEAST sucky would be the RF's.

See, you came here for advice from people WHO KNOW MORE THAN YOU. You ask, and refuse to take our advice. PLEASE DO NOT make a mistake...if you heard a system done right you'd know that any of the brands you've asked about suck balls, period. peace

Why would you say rockford sucks? Rockford is a well respected company. maybe the punch and XLC's suck, but have you ever heard the power dvc's with a power punch class d 1000 watt amp pushing them. I had two 12" power dvc's in a v.t. box and 1000watt power punch amp, you could definitely hear me coming.
