Odd squeek
Ok, so last night on the way home from work I started noticing a odd squeek from my engine. When I got home I learned that it was coming from my dizzy. Well as I oulled off the cap and everything, there was nothing wrong with it. I checked the set screw and it was still in stuck in there with threadlock (just installed cap, rotor, plugs, and wires in a failed attempt to pass emissions). Being as it was 11:30 at night, upon noticing everything was fine, I put it back together. Well as I started it this morning, the noise continued. Well as I started driving to work, it went away. Any ideas?

Re: Odd squeek
On my lunch break I went back out to check it out and found it was still making the noise. The only thing that changed was the rotor. Orginally it just had two parts coming off the part the held the screw on. This new one was bascially a disk with two parts raised where the old one had the two parts coming off....

Re: Odd squeek
Actually it's still making it. I've been leaning towards having the wrong rotor but am not quite sure... never had to work on a distrubter/ignition system before....

Re: Odd squeek
Hey aftermarket dist and rotors never really fit right. I got a set from autozone and they did the same thing. So I went to honda paid honda prices but I know its right and it doesnt do it anymore.

Re: Odd squeek
It squeeks intermiddtenly, as I accelerate the squeek will get quieter and eventually go away, but as the motor goes below 2.5 it comes back. Its just one long squeek...

This sounds similar to a situation I had with my distributor before it went out. The squeek was rather intermittent and eventually it just started squeeking all the time lightly and would disappear sometimes when I would rev. Anyways back to my diagnosis. On my distributor it ended up being the little bearing on the shaft that the rotor mounts to. The bad news is that its in a part of the distributor that is labeled as "do not disassemble", so I take that to mean don't mess with it and even if you do there won't be a part at honda you can get to replace it with. The good news is I come on this forum and give you the info for free before your dist goes out and you get stranded like I did.
Edit: get a new dist

Re: Odd squeek
that's what i was getting at withthe constant squeak. If it is all the time it more than likely a bearing.
