Inexpensive way to improve my car

Alright, I've been a racing fan for a while, and recently have gotten a 95 Prelude, and done a few bolt ons (Injen Intake, 5ziggen exhaust) but I want to do a lot more, and unfortunately don't have a lot of cash to spend. Any suggestions would be awesome. Oh, and just to prove that I need to go faster. I run at a street legal track here in San Diego, and have been running a 10.4 at best in a 1/8th mile. I know that I can do better because before I blew my tranny and had to get another I could run a 10.1 (still too slow for me).

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

Ditto. If you're not gonna be driving the car as an everyday car especially. A/C, i think the power steering unit is pretty heavy, windshiled wiper motor and stuff like that...depends on how extreme you want to go.

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

Thanks for the advice. I believe I will take out the a/c (which I also heards adds to horsepower, not sure if that is true or not?). I do drive my car everyday though, so taking out the powersteering and wiper motor isn't something I really want to do. Any other advice you guys can give me would be great, thanks.

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

Again, depends on how crazy you want to go, and how much money you want to spend. You could remove your rear and passenger seat. If you want to spend money, you could get lighter racing seats. Also, things like a carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber trunk, and replacing other things with carbon fiber composites will take some weight off too.

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

I want to get a carbon fiber hood. I've thought about removing my back seats, but I seem to two passengers way too often to be driving a prelude. Money wise, I don't want to spend too much, because I don't have much to spend.
Other than reducing weight, are there any other inexpensive ways you might suggest to improve my performance?

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

Well, there's a ton of things you can do, most of which will be like between $200 and $300, depending on what brands you get. Pullies will lighten up the load on your engine and free up some hp. Cam gears might help, though I think they do more when you have more mods. You could try to pick up a chipped ECU or something...The list goes on and on, and this forum is filled with info...use the search function and you can find just about anything.

Save up your money. Small, cheap mods obviously will shell out small gains.

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

I agree with Aces.. Save your money. I know you want to go fast, but suspension is probably the most fun mod you will ever do.

As a note, the rear seats weigh practically nothing, don't bother taking them out.

Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

ABSOLUTELY AGREED
I have the rear seats out from my ex prelude, that are lying around my bedrooma nd they are no heavier than a 1 foot tall soft toy. If you want to just try it urself, the bottom parts of the seats come off just by pulling two pins under the seats. Its all foam.
HERE'S A SUGGESTION...
FROM NOW ON BEFORE YOU GO TO THE TRACK, YOU TAKE OUT THE POWER DRILL, GET A BUDDY TO HELP YOU N U'LL BE DUN WITH THIS IN NO TIME(you are obviously not going alone to the track, ur boys obviously wanna see u hit the blacktop) take a rachet, and tell ur buddy to loosen the bolts that you point at. He loosens and you use the power drill...
Take off all of the following easy boltoff items that weigh a lot but you still need them in every day driving:
HOOD(its god damn heavy)
TRUNK LID,
PASSENGER SEAT.
Not only will you chop off some major weight and some major miliseconds off your 1/8th mile but when you drive up, you will get a lot more heads going "damn" at ur ryde. and please make sure your plug wires and everything is tight in your engine bay, you dont want stuff flying out(seen it happen) HAHA.

Re: Re: Inexpensive way to improve my car

you mean people actually care about 1/8 mile times... lol... especially in a honda prelude... my 94 si goes 0-60 in like 7.5seconds or so thats not very good
