AWD Mustang = Mutilation?

Just out of curiousity, if I was to do an AWD conversion what would be the general opinion of it? Good idea? Mutilation? Against tradition? Maybe I could find a way to install a tourque splitter to operate in either RWD or AWD mode. And is possible to install an IRS set-up? Hmmmmm...

well theres no doubt that its against tradition... no doubt, atleast in my mind. but along those lines... ive though about that myself, when i get a new car whenever that may be, im hopin for a cobra, i was thinkin about trying some kind of 4WD conversion on my v6 stang. i could use that for my winter beater, i thought that would be really cool.

i personally see that as against tradition... mustangs have always been RWD, and for good reason... it's the best configuration for the kind of racing it's designed for. i've seen mustang bodies suspended 4 feet in teh air under massive truck tires with an off-road 4WD system, but it was about the stupidest thing i've ever seen... as far as AWD is concerned, i'm sure it can be done, but it would require tremendous amounts of fabrication and fitting... i don't see how you would get an axle under the front end with stock or near-stock ride height, there's just not a lot of room.

i say, if you want all wheel drive, buy a car that comes equipped with it. rumor has it that the new focuses will be all wheel drive.

In fact, I was thinking about getting the V6 because of the amount of mods I was considering(an cobra engine swap, IRS setup, or even the turbo kit found here http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ...TurboKit.shtml ).
I could do these kinds of mods on a V-6, but maybe others wouldn't do the same to a mustang.

Re: AWD Mustang = Mutilation?

I have also pondered the thought of AWD... and it would defintalely be against tradition. Now if there was a way to stuff a 03 Cobra motor and a AWD setup, that would be so bad ass...
I would start by looking at the tranny from the Cadillac's, mainly the front wheel drive Northstart setup. They are about the same width as a NewEdge mustang 99~04 mustang.
