Post Oil Pressure

Could somebody give me an example of the oil pressure I should have reading. I recently bought a 98 Blazer with the 4.3 in it. It has a slight knock to the motor. The motor has a 177,000 miles on it and still runs like a champ. I am trying to avoid the repair as long as possible. This unit is unbelievably clean. I changed the oil in the unit and went to a 10w 30 synthetic with a bottle of Prolong and the pressure dropped slightly. I was skeptical on the Prolong product in the first place. Does anybody have any helpful advice? Please e-mail me, or respond to this if you get a chance. Thanks for any and all advice.

Re: Oil Pressure

well Blazers are made to operate with 5w 30 not 10. as to what your pressure is gonna be at it will vary my pressure when driving is ususally around 40 PSI and down near 10 when idling once it is warm.

Opinion:
Prolong: According to Dupont teflon is not designed to be in an internal combustion engine. Prolong is snake oil that could plug up oil galleys and create dry spots.

10W-30 wrong oil...put 5W-30 in that's what the manufacturer recommends. Why ? Startup where most wear occurs, will take longer to circulate.

suggestion:
1. Take filter off, and install a cheap filter.
2. pour 1 can of gunk engine flush, or sea-foam in crankcase.
3. start car and let IDLE for 30 minutes. Don't drive, run just let it idle.
4. warm engine, drain oil as usual....
5. Do you normal oil change, you can put 5W-30 dino or synthetic oil.
If you use dino oil, I'd use Castrol GTX.

Filters: Make sure you use a decent filter...not Fram ...suggest AC-Delco

And you will be good to go.....

Don't be fooled by snake oils, the key to your engine, as I have 158000 on mine, is keep it clean for oil to circulate....clean clean clean....

snake oils just mask those beater engines and quite some of the tappet noise by gumming them up....it works ......for a while....

stay on top of you oil changes, whether you use synth, or dino oil ....don't neglect...

Sorry for getting on my soap box...

Change your oil and get rid of the prolong. It is HORRIBLE for your engine.

You sure it is knocking or is it just a tapping from the lifter.

I would perform an engine flush. Search for it in the blazer section, I have told people how to do it before.

Re: Oil Pressure

From some previous testing prolong contains chlorine. A very big NO for an internal combustion engine.
