just bought new pcm but hmm......

i am a new mod guy i guess you could call it and i really am into it now. now that i got that off my chest, i bought a reprogramed pcm off the pfyc.com website (which is really good i think) but when i installed it i get the check engine code. i can not stand looking at that it just burn in my pupils when i am driving my baby. anyway i figure it is because the O2 sensors might need to be replaced. i honestly don't know but that is my best guess. i need help if anyone has an opinion on what the problem is or how get rid of it your advice would be a great addition to an otherwise clueless guy. thanks

100% of the time on 98/04 reprogramed PCM's,you need to have a case learn done or what GM calls it is a Crankshaft Position Variation Learn Procedure .If you have an auto zone go by there and they will scan the car for free and give you the code.I bet money on the code will be a DTC P1336.Here is the procedure must be performed Click Here

Which PCM did you buy???

Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

hey thanks for the info larry, i bought the digital horsepower pcm it works real well i noticed a huge difference in the shift rpms and wot lag that i used to have with the stock pcm. so... by taking it to autozone and they run that diagnostic does that fix the problem or what? ultimately i just want the light gone i know that sounds dumb but hey...... oh yeah i had another question?

my mpg has really been crappy as of late i wondered what i could do to revitalize this so to speak. thanks again bro

They wount fix it,they will just tell you the code which im sure is a P1336.If it comes up with a different code, let use know and we will help you with it.

You have to find a shop that has a Tech II scanner or a Snap-On 2500 scanner to beable to do the Crankshaft Position Variation Learn Procedure.Just make sure they preform the learn procedure and not FLASH THE PCM or you will be back to stock setting's on the PCM

Re: Re: Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

thanks larry i will seek out a dude with either of those scanners and have him fix my ride but autozone seems like i have to get there first and get the code. i just got a tune-up 2200 miles ago and i am currently at 102,400 miles so i don't think that is the issue (at least i think) the dealership did the service and they said that my car was in very excellent condition. i like to drive and i have gotten up there in mileage.

Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

If the O2 sensor in the rear exhaust manifold hasnt been changed, that can effect your mileage also. They say they should be replaced at about 75,000.Usually when the sensor is bad, the engine will show some loss of power, and will not seem to respond as quickly.

Re: Re: Re: Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

huh...

well here give me a geography lesson on cars so to speak you are talking about the O2 sensor on the exhaust where it connects to the cat right? i am pretty green with cars but i have been learning pretty quick. i just changed my exhaust out yesterday and remember seeing this. i put a borla system on and am quite happy with it. anyway i want to replace my headers and my cat as well but i am leaning towards replacing my engine altogether with a crate 3800 II and i need to buy a new tranny as well to match the new engine. what do you think about super charger versus the new cartuning turbo they have out for our engines? i haven't seen any research saying which one would do the best for max whp let me know if you know something on this because ultimately i would like to keep the N/A but if the supercharger is better i will buy that.

Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

We have 2 O2 sensor's.1 is located in the rear exhaust manifold next to the firewall by the #6 spark plug and they other is after the cat, thats the one you have seen.

I myself if I had a GT,id go with the CSC over a Turbo.Click Here to read about the CSC for a GT

Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

Have you considered the aftermarket PCM as your cause for your poor fuel mileage?

To get more power and performance you have to give up fuel mileage.

Re: Re: just bought new pcm but hmm......

No you don't. You have to get your foot out of the gas pedal. I bought and installed 3.4" pulley, CIA, PCM and rockers in about a week's time. The first thing I did was bitch about the drop in gas mileage. Then two friends from this site told me, "get your foot out of the gas". Don't turn boost gauge on and see what happens. Went from 14.3 to 17.8. Our cars get as good as milage as we LET them.
