flex agent and soft body parts

can anyone give me the proper procedure for spraying soft body parts? i'm repainting my gf's 91 camaro which has a soft front bumper cover. i know i need flex agent, but i'm not sure if i should mix the flex agent into the paint and spray the entire car, or am i supposed to only use the flex agent on the cover? if so, would i need to mask off the hood and fenders and only spray the cover and then shoot the rest of the car? please reply to [email protected]. thanks in advance

What most people don't know is the flex agent gasses out in a month or so. It's only necessary while installing the part. Flex agent really isn't necessary if the parts are still on the car. It is used when the parts are taken off and have more of an opportunity to "flex" while being installed.
If you leave the parts on, just prep and paint with the rest of the car.
Some of the newer stuff can add some chip resistance but you really need to know exactly what you need. I would suggest talking to a paint shop and getting their input.

Re: flex agent and soft body parts

I recently was doing almost the same project as you. I replaced the stock bumper cover/airdam on my 02 xtreme blazer with an aftermarket. The aftermarket bumper cover was made out of urathane(sp?) vs. the abs that the stock one was made out of, so the new one had quite a flex to it. I picked up a can of OMNI flex-add and you mix it directly into the paint then spray the part. In my opinion you really don't need the flex-add unless you're seriously going to be manhandeling the painted parts before/during installation (as I did to install a mesh grill and fog lamps). Peace-
