Question subs with case for my current amps

Hi people,

I'm in the projet of getting a sub for my car (civic hatchback 95). So there isnt much space in the back.

I don't know much in subs except what the sellers at futureshop explained to me and he didn't look to know more than me... I'm listening to rock and metal music whith some hip-hop and techno and I listen to music for myself(not for others outside the car) so I look for quality not for extreme loudness. I don't have a large amount of money and I'd like to use the stuff I already own.

I already own 3 amps I got for not much:
A sherwood XAT 120 (60w rms X 2@ 4 ohms) (don't know much about this one...)
A alpine 3540 (30w rms X 2 @ 4 ohms, 80w x 1 @ 4 ohms)
A sony XM-280GTX(80W rms x 2 channels @ 4 ohms, 200W rms x 1 channel @ 4 ohms)

What sub should I pick with one of these. I was looking for infinity 10" or 12" on ebay (about 50$ each, any good??) and maybe mtx or kicker has I have read good comments on them (JL looks nice but they are expensive). something mid-range not the big expensive one nor the cheap ass legacy-like.

Also what kind of box should I go for and should I go 10" or 12"?

Thanks a lot, if you need any other info, ask me.

Re: subs with case for my current amps

I think this all depends on what you have heard before. For example if the last sub you heard, you thought was a complete pile of crap (cough cough Legacy, Pyle, Lanzar), then youll be fine with the infinites. Now im not saying their good, just saying they might be good for YOU. Some of us here think that infinties sound cheap, but take into consideration that weve heard a variety of good subs that will chew up infinity, spit it out, and bury it 6 feet deep. In my opinion since your only want sound quality for urself, get the and ifinity refrence 12. All you need to do know is cover your ears if you hear another sub and run the another way lol. (Just incase it might sound better than the infinities) BTW Go for the infinity Kappa 12's if you can. IMO go sealed box.

Atlas 12 from Ascendant Audio runs $145 and has XBL^2 technology which you would greatly benifit from wanting great SQ and listening to rock mostly. It's the best priced XBL^2 driver out there. Also look at Adire's shivas they're 125 and ED's subs.... I'm not a big fan of ED though.

I was talking about infinities because I saw some good review about em, and they were not expensive, but I'm not closed to that brand. What about kickers, alpine, MTX, are they good, my friend says MTX really good. I see a lot of people talking about reaudio but they sound expensive as people talk about 'em and I've never seen any in the stores(on ebay neither). People say don't go audioban or sony. What are these "variety of good subs that will chew up infinity" I should look for, I would put around 100$ on the sub alone matching with my current amp.

thanks for the reply

Re: subs with case for my current amps

audiobahn and sony Definitely NO! Stay farr away, ive heard sony and audiobahn, they do nuthing but make this cuntinous loud obnoxious noise without sq. Well lets cancel out reaudio for you, you say that you dont have enough to spend so cancel that out. Next MTX, or Infinity is the way to go for you IMO. Havent really heard any good alpines or kickers. Don't let the people here discourage you, if you dont have a big budget go with mtx or inifinty. If you decide to save your money go for reaudio. ONce you buy your sub, stick with it and dont come back to the forums or else ull regret your purchase lol. Go MTX or Infinity. That should give YOU what youre looking for.

Re: Re: subs with case for my current amps

my budget is around 100$ for the woofer alone, I'm open to any suggestions, until I buy one I'm from Canada so some brand may be harder to get/find.

Re: subs with case for my current amps

go to www.caraudio.com they have a group buy goin on you can pick up a pair of RE12's for like 95 bucks shipped then get an amp tha does 300-400 watts rms at 4 ohms.....or 1 ohm.... that would be pretty damn good for someone who hasn't heard the "good stuff" You gotta get them before feb. 18 to get the good price though.

thanks I think I'll give it a try for the RE. Do you think I should get 2 12", one 12", one 10" or 2 10" ? Remember I don't have a big car and i don't want to change my alternator
