Headlight Question.
I have a 2001 Windstar SEL equipped with Daytime Running Lights and Auto On headlights. I received a warning from the dashboard display that there was a problem with the right headlight. I checked and the headlights (DRL) were on and appeared to be working correctly.
I switched the headlights on manually (this was in bright sunlight) and both headlights came on and both the high/low beam positions worked corrrectly but when I turned the headlight switch back to the “Auto” position, the right headlight stayed on and now cannot be turned off. I turned the headlight switch to the “Off” position, but the right headlight continued to stay on. I turned the car off and the right headlight continued to stay on. I took the bulb out to prevent the battery from discharging – any suggestions as to what I might try before I take it to the dealership? Thank you. Pylet |

Re: Headlight Question.
Keep in mind that the exterior lamps get 12 volts positive "at all times"... the switching is done on the ground (negative) side. For the headlamps the negative switching is done by the FEM (Front Electronic Module). There's a good chance you have a ground fault, probably in the lamp holder or the wiring between the lamp holder and the FEM.
The 12 volts positive for both hi/lo filaments of the RH lamp come from fuse #15 of the battery fuse box ...thru the YE/RD conductor. The "hi" filament is connected thru the YE/WH conductor to terminal #10 of the FEM. The "lo" filament is connected thru the LG/WH conductor to terminal #7 of the FEM. |
