Question Rear-wheel drive Del-sol?

I want to know if any one thinks it is even remotely possible to swap an S2000 motor and tranny into a Del Sol. I just got my settlement for an accident I was in and thought that a rear-wheel drive Sol would be killer. Especially with a 6-speed and 240hp stock out of the motor.

Yeah, it's possible. There is a sol in Japan called Top Fuel Sol. I don't have the link, but he runs low 10's. Expect to pay some serious money though.

I don't want it to be rear-engined. I want it to have the S2000 motor up front with the 6-speed manual and the rear transaxle.

35k? That seems a bit much. I could get any model Del sol with a gazillion miles on it because all of its drivetrain is being ripped out anyway. Find a wrecked S2000 and strip it that couldn't cost more than a couple grand, 5 or 6 at least I'm thinking, and then the installation. That couldn't come close to 35K now could it? The point is that I would have show and go in a one-off show car. Not to mention it would have to be the first FRONT-engined rear-wheel drive Del Sol ever. And please, no rebuttals about the pro drag del sol, it is rear-engined rear-wheel drive.

Your best bet is to ask shops around your local area to get a better idea of what might be involved. It's possible for sure, but it also depends on if shops would want to take on something that big. Some shops might decline to take on that kind of project or they will be happy to spend your money to the fullest trying. Different motor mounts would have to be fabricated for sure. Not sure of the size of the s2k motor, but it may not fit inside the bay. It would be cool to see for sure, but would it be worth the amount of money spent to do it?

5000-6000 to strip a s2k?
I don't think so.....a b18c is 3000 already and a b18c5 is 5000, u think you can strip a s2k for it's engine for 5000-6000? thats hard to believe.
And your not just taking the engine, your taking the drivetraing and what else..I think it would be easier to just find a wrecked s2k, buy it and put a del body on it....but whats the point of that?
I thought about puttin 4WD on my civic, but damn that be hell.
I was thinking about taking the CRV drivetrain....and since the CRV is based on the civic it would be pretty easy right?
I dunno...never tried......my point is....the s2k is not based on the delsol....but hey you can do what you please.

another example is the rx7 powered supra.
Supra engine in a rx7....aka supra-7....but they both are rear wheel drive if im correct...but hope this information helps...HAVE FUN!!!

asnrefugee...

You have to remember that when you are talking about those other motors that they have been shipped from over seas and have all been tested and carry some sort of warranty as well as being sold from a company that is in the business of making money from mainly those motors. Also, those motors come with the drivetrain most of the time and if I was to find a wrecked S2K it would be at a junk yard or salvage yard and it would be a lot cheaper because there would be no importing cost or certification or warranty or all that good stuff. Also I would pull all of it myself so there would not even be any costs to remove short of my time.
