Lsd?

I always hear people talking about the s13 needing an lsd to drift. what is a lsd (besides a drug) and what does it do?

lsd is limited slip differential.

try taking a car with no lsd and doing a burn-out...youll only leave 1 mark..

the power only reaches only reaches one wheel, with an lsd, the power is distributed evenly to both wheels

1.5 way lsd means it locks only when you accelerate, and 2way lsd means the lsd is always on accerate and decelerate.

it also makes the rear wheels want to slide out more when you give it a lot of power, especially so much as to smoke the tires, on an open differential when u do that it pretty much stays in straight line without any countersteering nessecary.

So you have to know how to control your car a bit differently with throttle application, but when you have it all figured out it will put more power down to the ground and you will be faster.

id hafta beg the DIFFer.... (lame joke )

back when i ran an open diff, drifting was a billion times more difficult and i had to countersteer way more then now that i have an LSD..

the power shifted to each wheel as my weight shifted side to side... i had to balance the car alot better to get it sliding smoother

Ok, well I know that my 240 doesnt have that cause I have noticed that I only burn my right rear in power stalls... how do I get a LSD and how hard is it to install?

yes you have to try a lot harder with an open differential to drift. A limmited slip makes it easier for the rear end to kick out.

What I meant with the open diff not requiring counter steer is just burning out from a stand still(most guys on here wouldn't know about that lol no offsense) I just drove a 600hp El Camino and it will roast the rear tires when u get on it in 1st gear at 20mph, and it will roast the tires about 3 seconds on the 1-2 shift lmao! This car has an open differential and hardly requires any countersteer in a straight line when the rear tires loose traction. On the other hand in my brothers Impala he has much wider tires and a good Eaton LSD. The rear end will kick out real easy, and just nailing it from a stop will get the rear end to come out a little bit sometimes. This is the locking action of the LSD doing this. Both tires spin the same speed when its burning out like that and the rear end is a lot more easier to slide out.

To prove my point some of you im sure have Gran Turismo 3. This isn't a realistic driving simulation or anything, its a PS2 game, but it does mimmick it pretty good, you mess with settings it will change the habbits of the car. Get a full custom LSD and turn up the action all the way to the right, or the MAX, and see how much easier the rear end will slide out.....

some of those clutch types can get hard to install especially if you have never done one before. It isn't the easiest thing to do on a car.

Quaife makes the best ones, they run over a grand, lifetime warranty no questions asked best performance though....

the differential sorta looks like a pumpkin some people call it. It is right in the moddle of the car, in line with the rear wheels. The front has the driveshaft going into it, and the sides have the two rear axels driving each of the rear wheels.
