EGR valve problems with 93 2.3 L Ranger

I recently bought the truck and need it to pass emissions. I have put eight new plugs in it, wires, fuel filter, serpentine belt, clutch fan and the EGR valve (to start). Once i hooked up the EGR valve vacuum, the truck started to barely run and kept skipping a beat. As soon as I unplugged the vacuum it ran like new. (THere is a lot of vacuum ot of the tube) So, I ran an EEC System test and it called for a new ECT valve and an ACT valve. I replaced them both (60.00 later) and it still isn't fixed? The truck drives OK but seemd to lack power,a nd is kind of sluggish on the highway. Any suggestions?...People have said possibly the EGR position sensor, pressure sensor, and EGR vacuum solenoid. How can I find out?.... Thanks!

Re: EGR valve problems with 93 2.3 L Ranger

Did you ever have any luck fixing your truck? I working on my son-in-law's '94 2.3 and it seems to have the same malady. Tests show EGR concerns. I've replaced the DPFE sensor, the sensor hoses, the EGR pressure regulator solenoid valve (I forget the acronym), and I've checked the EGR valve .... doesn't have a vacuum leak and seems to actuate OK.

I've also done some regular maintenance, new plugs & wires; and replaced one ig pack. Also replaced the Oxygen sensor. The truck runs much better, but still not 100% .... and the CEL light has gone from "constant" to "sometimes".

???

(EDIT/UPDATE) Now I've read your other post. Apparently you've fixed your problem. Congrats!

Re: EGR valve problems with 93 2.3 L Ranger

I had power issues along with MPG issues, this is after a new timing belt and plugs n wires. I made an EGR block off plate at work, plugged the vacuum line and unplugged the EGR harness from the valve, and it runs awesome now, bumped MPG up by 4 miles per gallon, and I can hold 80 MPH on the freeway up hlls even! Just had to lose the Excessive Gas Required valve, I dont have emiision testing , but I just provided cleaner air thanks to blocking off the valve, imagine that.
