Electric Problem I think!!!
I went on vacation and just came back 2 days ago, I had my JGC 95 Limited 5.2 V8 parked for about 3 weeks while we where away and the night we came back I notice a little poddle of oil in the ground coming from the Oil pan, I had to replace the gasket. But my real problem is my battery, The battery is 7 months old and it can not hold a charge, I have top disconect the battery every time I stop teh engine if not it wont start back up.. and when it dies I jump it and starts right back up. Another thing I notice was smoke and funny smell commming out from the back of the engine at first i thought it was the oil that was burning but no it smells like burnt cables or something..
I have an appointment tommorrow in the garage for an alternator check, but teh alternator is 3 months old. so I have no idea what the problem is, if any body has any sugestions or ideas i will really appreciate them. Thank you |

Re: Electric Problem I think!!!
For and electrical problem like this, first check the battery condition by testing the electrolyte with a hydrometer.
Recharge the battery as necessary and load test the battery after it is fully charged. It is normal for the battery to discharge when the vehicle sits for a longer period of time. There is a service bullitin about the body control module not shutting down after the normal 20 minute timeout. There are also other components that also remain active after the key is turned off so a test with an ameter for the key off drain is necessary. The tech should be familiar with that proceedure and if not, then it can be found on the internet or I can provide it for you. The exhaust smell is likely not connected to the electrical problem. This is a catyletic converter generated smell that may or may not be normal. Have the tech look at it too while it is in the shop. JD JD |

Re: Electric Problem I think!!!
JD Thanks for all your info, I just got the truck back from the garage, the problems is that I am stationed in Japan so the base has a little autoport and thats where we take all the cars to get fixed, off base is quite expen$$$, well they found the problem, is the Security system,it is drainig 1.2 amps from te battery very slowly, so when I got home I notice that my rear pasanger door is not locking with the key less entry remote, so i did not used the remote last night, I just locked the doors with the key and yes.. this morning the car started right up with out any problems and runned all day.
so now my problem is how do I get that locke from my door fixed, or how do i disconect the security system at least until i get tranfered to the states where i can get it fixed for less.. If somebody nows how to fix the door automatic lock please help. Thanks to all |
