Re: 280Z for racing what year chassis?
Why just a 280z? Why not a lighter 260 or even 240z?
But to answer your question, '75 - '78 the only years of the 280z. '79-'83 was the years of the 280zx. Heavier and not so great in handling. http://wwwmotorsportauto.com Or more directly, http://www.zcarparts.com They carry all the parts you'd need to make a race car. There are others, but that's the one I know off the top of my head without lookin up bookmarks.

70-72 240 is the lightest. The 73 240 was about 200 lbs heavier. Some of wich was the heavier doors and front bumper brackets. A 73 is still lighter than a 280 though.

Re: 280Z for racing what year chassis?
I talked to a guy at a local salvage yard and he says he has what he believes is a 240z, he knew it had twin side draft carbs. I don't think he knew to much about it, other than Nissan coupe, but either way is it good project buy??!? for what he says 400 dollars thanks

how bad is rust and things like that??? i wouldnt pay $400 for something that basically is only worth the chasis but if the body is straight and the interior isnt horrible, it might be worth it.
