Airbox

Just busted out three 1-1/2" holes in the lower part of the airbox. Two on the sides in front, and one in the bottom. Sounds GREAT!!!

Seems like maybe a little more responsive. Haven't left the 'hood yet, so I haven't been able to really stand on it. I'll let you know.

Guess now I'll have to uncork the muffler

Re: Airbox

Took it out on the highway. The difference is not huge, but noticable. Really roars when you stand on it. Sounds great. Gonna open up the exhaust a little and see what that does for it.

Couldn't see the logic in having a 3" diameter MAF with an intake duct half that size going to the airbox. What are they thinking?

Re: Airbox

I forgot. When I had that box out, I saw the TCC solenoid connector right under it, if anybody was looking for it.

if you like the sound with an opened up airbox, you should try to make a custom short ram. you'll be happy with it and you will be able to feel the difference.

I was eyeballin' the ducts and filters they have at the 'Zone, thinking about that. The "corragated" rubber duct that is OE on most cars is supposed to be hideous for airflow.

well if possible, the best thing to do is try to get a used intake that no one wants or a cheap one then cut part of it to fit your car. but autozona works too....i wouldnt trust their filters though. try to find a K&N cone filter. for example: i used to own a 2002 Daewoo Lanos. there were no parts for it, so I bought an old Cold air intake from a 99 Prelude, cut it up , and made a beautiful and loud intake for my car.

Re: Airbox

Yeah, you're right, the filters did look a little 'iffy". I have an airbox from a '99 Ford van, It is cone shaped, and there is a K+N filter available for it. I could cut it, making the cover mostly open, and it has an outlet on it that matches the diameter of the cold air piping I saw. How critical is the metal of the duct? I've heard that if you use steel, it gets hot enough under the hood that it passes the heat to the cold air, which is couterproductive. Aluminum or phenolic plastic would be better. The Zone's stuff looks like anodized steel to me.

yeah. thats the main reason i would try to get a used one from a good company like AEM or Injen. they still heat up, but not as much. you could always use thermal tape if youre worried about heat. but the advantage of a short ram intake will not be overcome by it heating up; its still a huge improvement.
