Cruise control goes off and want come back on

2000 TC 48,000 miles
The cruise works normally for about 30 min. It stops working completely after the brakes are applied. Nothing will start the cruise again until the car is parked for about an hour. The mechanics at the local dealer have no idea what the problem is. HELP

Trying to get this straight...
If you use the OFF button rather then having the BOO switch shut off the cruise control, will you still have the problem? I'm just wondering if the BOO trigger is causing the problem.

Re: Cruise control goes off and want come back on

The cruise works for a while. It stops working after I touch the brakes to slowdown. It works several times after brakeing then it just stops working and noting will start it again except hours later after being parked. Is there a switch on the brake peddle?

Well, it's better described as a "multi function" switch. The technical name is "Brake On/Off" or BOO switch.

I don't believe we need to be concerned weather the BOO switch is working or not, cause it sounds like it's working. It would be interesting to know if it's getting stuck in the "brake on" mode, but that would also hold the brake lights on as well.

Back to the point of my 1st reply, I was wondering if you've experimented with the OFF button, using it rather that the BOO switch.

I know it sounds wierd to suggest you hit OFF everytime before using the brake pedal, but that diagnosis step might prove valuable later in this scanerio.

Re: Cruise control goes off and want come back on

Thanks for the info Steve. I will try and use the on off switch instead of the brakes to shut it off as soon as it starts working again. I tried to use it today but it would not work at all. May be that is a blessing now we can find why it does not work at all. I will post the results. Lou.

I'd offer you my 1996 CD Service Manual, to follow the pinpoint tests, but the difference is most likely too great between my old 1996 and you're 2000...
