I know with a few people that have an aftermarket header that when they go over like 60 their CEL comes on. They turn their car off for like 5 min turn it back on the CEL is off.

Re: Check Engine Light On After Putting Headers On My 93 Accord Ex
Both are correct, retorque the header bolts down again after the first 50 miles, also copper gaskets are great...I got 2 exhaust leaks when I put my header on, and copper gaskets solved that problem.
And lastly, sometimes aftermarket exhaust parts do cause the 02 sensors to throw Check Engine Lights. However, before jumping to conclusions, I'd pull the code from the ECU: http://www.hondapitstop.com/accord/t...ror_codes.html This will help you diagnose exactly what is wrong.

I did not use a torque wrench to torque down the header bolts. I did not use a copper header gasket, just an after market one from Auto Zone (same one that came w/ car from factory). Before I put the after market header on, I loosen the factory header some and then started up the car to put it the the garage and the check engine light never came on? Funny huh?! Another thing, I did not replace the down pipe w/ after market, I just hooked up the after market header to the factory down pipe. Does this make a difference? I did put a gasket in between the header and down pipe, but not cooper. |

Re: Check Engine Light On After Putting Headers On My 93 Accord Ex
The check engine light prolly didn't come on the first time because of the nasty cake-on affect that things have after a while... But yeah, as long as the header and down-tube lined up that shuld be ok, as far as not torquing it, u should, and as long as u replaced the gaskets u should be ok, but if it breaks down the road go with copper...

BTW, u can grab a torque wrench for advance auto parts (i think, maybe autozone?) and when u return it u get ur full money back (free rental)...
