Re: serpentine belt
Have you looked under the hood for the directions?
I have a 98 but after we opened and looked in the Haynes manual at the store to find it and put it back on the shelf, we get home and find that the diagram was on the inside of the hood the whole time. Jennifer |

Re: serpentine belt
There should be a belt routing diagram on a sticker.....mine is on the underside, front, of the hood.
I have a '96....but yours should be similar. The tensioner pulley is at the back. Mine takes a 15mm wrench or shallow socket (clearance is an issue for deep socket). You want to put the 15mm wrench/socket onto the bolt at the middle of the pulley.....and turn clockwise....is such a fashion that the whole pulley assembly moves forward.....removing tension from the belt.....thereby enabling you to slide it off the pulley on the ALTERNATOR. It takes a good hard pull...so the more leverage you can get....such as from a long handled wrench, the better. From there....you will be able to remove the belt. Follow the belt routing diagram that is on the sticker on the underside of your hood for the correct routing for the new belt......and thread all pulleys except the alternator pulley. Then pull on the tensioner with the 15mm wrench as you did to remove the belt....until you have enough slack to slide it over the alternator pulley. Verify the correct routing, and start the engine and verify correct operation. |
