Building a 2005 Boss 429

I take posession of my new 2005 Mustang GT next week. With less than 30 miles on the odometer, I'm pulling the 4.6L motor, reworking suspension fore and aft, voiding all my warranties and dropping a reconstituted 429 hemi and slightly modified Paxton Supercharger into this puppy.

Expected horsepower=600+... I can't wait to fire the mother up.

It'll also have a GTR front facia (a better match for the '69 and '70 Boss).

I have waited 30 years for Ford to get its act together and I'm not waiting any longer. Wish me luck... who knows, maybe you'll see my 2005 Boss 429 on the cover of Road & Track. Wouldn't THAT be sweet?

I doubt you will see a 2005 mustang with a DODGE engine on the cover of any FORD based magazine. I take it this is going to be a trailer queen too.

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

My god. Does anyone else know that the 429 in the Boss 429's used hemi heads?

Either way, sounds like a pipe dream and I'll belive it when I see it.

When stating HEMI, that's DODGE's marketing slang for when they came out with their own version of the Hemispherical heads. So it is assumed that when the abbrivated form of Hemispherical is used aka HEMI, it is also assumed that someone is talking about a DODGE since they own that trademark and logo. I am personally assuming that someone is taking a 426 Hemi and over borring it to a 429.

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

three things:

dampachi - why do you bother to leave posts?

silverstangs - if you are going to get into particulars:
it isn't unreasonable to call any hemispherical headed engine a hemi, just as it isn't unreasonable to call any dude named daniel dan.
Chrystler didn't develop the hemi for use or license to dodge strictly, for example its debut was in a 51 saratoga.
HEMI can be seen in advertisements for plymouth, chrystler, desoto(technically) and dodge with the street 426 being released and promoted as HEMI for both plymouth and dodge and today chrystler rubs hemi all over their new hemi powered cars as much as dodge does.

headlesshorseman - god speed, the new 05s are dope and i'm sure that any project on one this early in the game will spark an interest.

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

What do you mean? In this particular thread? Well, since I'm taking a break from swapping in a twin turbo'd jet engine into my mustang...I decided I'd post some on this forum. Wow, hopefully when I'm done I'll have my car pictured on the cover of Aviation Monthly! Yay!

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

Yup, it's a hemi... Does anyone remember the Dodge K-cars that said HEMI on the side? It's used many ways by many people.....actually, even the early escorts were hemis!

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

My God you people are jackals.

That is an aftermarket Boss 429 head. If you know what 'Hemi' actually means, you know that those are indeed 'Hemi' chambers. If you don't know what 'Hemi' means, keep your mouth shut. Just because Mopar marketed the living hell out of the name isn't Ford's fault. Those heads are not actually the same as the production Boss 429 heads, which have small quench pads on either side of the valves, hence the nickname 'semi-hemi'.

It sounds like an awesome project, but I'd shoot for more than 600hp. With those 'Semi-Hemi' heads you should easily be able to make 650-800hp without any boost or nitrous - with a supercharger, 800-1200 would be quite attainable.
HeadlessHorseman, I wish you the best of luck. I notice you're from New Milford, CT; I'm from Farmington. If you need a hand, shoot me an email or PM, I'd love to help out.
Oh, and one more thing - May I recommend the Tasca Boss 429 paintjob?

Re: Building a 2005 Boss 429

Yep, the Boss '9 had the unofficial nickname of "semi-hemi".

Dodge K-cars with Hemi on the side? That's new to me, and I like to think I'm pretty knowledgable about K cars, having done a G-body buildup. A lot of TD's had Shelby or IROC R/T or GLH/GLH-T/GLHS on the side. I don't recall ever seeing "hemi". The 2.2/2.5 is a slant 4 with either a bathtub or a fastburn combustion chamber, depending on year and what size turbo. Visit the SDAC show if you want to see those...
