Audi TT turbo
I know that audi and VW both share the same 1.8t engine...but my 98 passat 1.8t needs a new turbo. I have a friend who has a turbo from an audi TT and wants to sell it to me for alot cheaper than the dealer. I want to know if it will fit my car, but i read somewhere that a TT has something like 220 horsepower as opposed to the passat's 150(I think). Does anyone have any info on this? any help is appreciated.

I believe a turbo from a 97-01 audi a4 1.8t fits your car. The engines are the same its just that audi uses different cam timing, more boost, and a ball bearing turbo not a bushing turbo like vw.
The tt turbo on the other hand, i dont believe the turbo is the same because the tt engine is transaxle not transverse like passat and a4. The tt turbo is a 1piece w/ manifold and the passat is a 2 piece. |

Re: Audi TT turbo
ok but how about a turbo from a golf GTI? i completely forgot about that... i was looking on ebay to try to find a used turbo from a passat but all that came up was turbos from golf's.

The turbo from a golf/jetta/beetle is integral (one piece) with the exhaust manifold. The passat turbo is just a turbo and the manifold is a seperate piece.

Re: Audi TT turbo
Your Passat uses a K03-15 and the Audi TT uses a K03-20 turbo - the previous poster was correct that turbos from the transverse mounted engines will not fit on your longitudinal 1.8T.
If you need a new turbo, you might want to consider upgrading to a larger turbo - ie the K04 or a Garrett 25 if you want to add more power. This will also cause you to need a software upgrade at the same time. Otherwise you're stuck with a new K03 built for the B5.
