Steering is sluggish.....

My 93 Sierra Ex Cab 2wd seems to have sluggish steering when driving at a slow speed. The power is still there, just not as much as it should be. The fluid level is fine and there are no leaks. I've had the truck for 2 years and it has always been this way. Is it the pump or the steering gear?

Re: Steering is sluggish.....

It most likely is the pump. But first thing to try is replacing the entire steering fluid. I use a turkey baster to first
take out as much fluid as possible from the pump reservoir.
Refill the pump
Turn the truck on
Turn the wheel fully right then left several times.
Repeat this at least a couple of times.

Then check your steering components under the truck (Pitman Arm, Idler Arm etc. Replace worn out parts. Good luck
