86 trooper tranny help
Hi, My Mom gave me an 86 Trooper with 5 spd trans. It had been sitting for about 5-7 years without being moved so we had quite a time of it just getting it started. After all laquored gas had been run out it ran great for about the past week. It always shifted into all gears fine, no grinding, clutch seemed fine. Today I get home and park it. When I go to get into it to go to the store, NOTHING! It will not shift into any gear. The clutch goes down and the shifter goes through all the gears but it will not engage. Also the Stick shift now feels loose where it did not before. I live in a very rural area in AZ and have mostly dirt roads. Could something have come loose, a bolt or anything? Someone help me please this is now my only means of transportation. Thank you

Re: 86 trooper tranny help
Thanks alot. We tried that and we have every mechanic in town stuck. I guess we will just try to find a cheap used tranny. Again thanks for your input.

Pulling the stick will not serve to repair the tranny...the problem is internal..probably bad (Worn) disc..you will need a new clutch job. I have a '86 T-II I am doing a clutch/Engine job on now. I live in Mesa AZ..e-mail me.
