Exclamation 97 Jetta and need info on deactiving the alarm

I have a 97 Jetta GLX VR6, left my lights on one morning for work and now my battery is dead. Tried getting a jump, but my alarm wouldn't let me turn the ignition on. How do i deactivate the alarm?

Turn the key in the driver's door to unlock position.
